How we help

Access Arrangements are reasonable adjustments made available to young people taking exams who have an identified long-term, substantial difficulty in an area of their learning.

This may be in their ability to process information, to process information at speed, to read or to write. access arrangements include, but are not limited to, having a reader or a scribe in an exam, having extra time or using speech recognition software.

The aim of access arrangements is to level the playing field. In order to ensure that these Access Arrangements are used fairly and for those who really need them the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) have produced a list of criteria for each access arrangement.

They require that anyone who is applying to use these arrangements have an assessment completed. This assessment must be conducted by a qualified assessor, who has a working relationship established with the school.

Access Arrangements can be carried out in flexible ways, depending on what access arrangements are required. For example, certain aspects, such as spelling and writing, can be performed with a group of 10 children. Other aspects, such as speed of processing, would take place on a 1:1 basis with each child in turn. Using this scheme, we can usually get through around 10 children during a school day, with school staff organising the children to turn up at pre-arranged times.

What we offer

Short individual assessments

This can include assessments for extra time and a scribe. It includes completion of Part 2 Form 8.

Group testing

This is a cost-effective way to assess a large number of students for extra time. It can cover speed of visual processing, spelling, writing and reading comprehension. If required, it is possible to add 1:1 assessment of cognitive processing. Bulk discounts apply.

Flexible

We understand that some students may not qualify using the normal tests, but you know there is a need and just need to prove this in order to gain the access arrangement.  We have a wide range of tests and our teachers are experienced enough to select the correct test if a certain test does not give the desired result.

In short, we will try as hard as possible to get your students the exams access arrangement they should have.
